Ian Burnet will speak on his new book, “Dangerous Passage. A Maritime History of the Torres Strait”. Lying as it does between the Coral Sea and the Araluen Sea, the Strait has strong and hazardous currents, and it is a dangerous area to navigate, as many early sailors discovered.
Ian Burnet is well known to members of the Lane Cove Historical Society, as he has spoken to us several times. He has written several books reflecting his interest in the history of Asia and South-East. He is the author of six books on maritime history and the Indonesian archipelago including: Spice Islands, East Indies, Archipelago - A Journey Across Indonesia, Where Australia Collides with Asia - The Epic Voyages of Joseph Banks, Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace, The Tasman Map and Joseph Conrad's Eastern Voyages.
